Danny Liu

Rhode Island School of Design '28
I am Ruizhe (Danny) Liu (b.2005), a Chinese artist currently enrolled in Rhode Island School of Design as an undergraduate student. I use drawing and installation to explore my relationship between me and my Chinese community. My installations and visual art use daily subjects and readymades to reconstruct a whimsical yet repressing reality in the 21st century. My practices often explore commerciality out of artifacts that are icons of contemporary culture, a spiritual representation of myself. These metaphors and avatars of myself present different states and struggle while visualizing an abnormal living condition. The environment I portray is often fragmented, with its identity switched and slid between the two oppositions from a pluralistic world yet binary society. My works fuse different semiotics from eastern and western culture, creating a juxtaposed situation of traditional Chinese ideology with a western skin - engraved in my mind.
