Blythe is fascinated by the brilliant and dramatic stories of the late 18th century. Many of which lack visual representation because they are either too obscure, or much of the evidence of them was destroyed during conflicts leaving very limited material to work with. In her work she explores how these stories are remembered, often through a combination of neoclassical aesthetics as well as religious imagery and symbolism while exploring themes of romanticism and martyrdom to fill these gaps and ensure that these histories will not be entirely forgotten.
